Hey there, I am Roberta Cucuzza, a product management consultant with over 20 years experience in tech-for-good, science, research and publishing. Over the course of my career I have worked with startups, scale-ups and large organisations in the private and public sectors.

I particularly enjoy supporting founders who are handling product management themselves and/or first product manager hires with product strategy, outcome-driven discovery, ways of working, roadmap planning and user research. My style of consulting is friendly, honest, challenging and inspired.

I’ve held roles across Support, Sales, Marketing, Strategy and Product Management. This diverse experience provides me with a solid understanding of business dynamics and equips me with the tools to create a positive dialogue across different departments and stakeholders.

I have a strong track record of building, coaching and developing high performing teams, as well as setting up clear product strategies that address well defined challenges.

At the core of my skillset is a curious mind that thrives in listening to users and understanding their needs. I am proud to have successfully coached teams to adopt a product mindset, understand their opportunity space and steer roadmaps to achieve outcomes for both users and the business.

I enjoy helping teams:

  • Define a vision, strategy and product direction
  • Establish a product management function
  • Grow teams from scratch and spotting talent
  • Adopt a product mindset
  • Practise ways of working that lead to high performing teams
  • Map their opportunity space to build an outcome-driven roadmap

Career Outline (life is not linear, and that’s a good thing)

I am originally from Italy and came over to live in London in 2003, soon after graduating with a first-class degree in English Literature from the University of Catania. I started my career working in Tech for a company called Psion Digital, which needed bilingual speakers for their Technical Support team; here I started working closely with developers and senior leadership to develop a new product and a vast body of technical knowledgebase articles. After nearly two years, I moved on to working for a small family-run academic publisher called World Scientific, where I spent eight years working in Sales and Marketing, promoting books and journals, often travelling across Europe and Asia, as well as leading the marketing operations for the London office as Head of Marketing.

When online open access journals exploded in the market I decided to move for a job at BioMed Central (part of Springer Nature) who had pioneered this model in the industry. I was then head-hunted to join BMJ (British Medical Journal) to focus on strategic marketing and product management within their Public Health and Veterinary portfolios.

Since 2016 I have been solely focused on product management in scholarly tech / tech-for-good while working for BMJ and Overleaf; At Overleaf I set up their product function from scratch, gradually taking ownership of and building a fantastic team of Product Managers, UX Designers and Data Analysts; during this time I also studied and introduced product discovery practices, launching several new product offerings that addressed both user and business needs.

More recently, I had the pleasure of coaching two teams at NHS England within the Digital Prevention Services Portfolio (DPSP) and supported their Senior Leadership team with shaping their 5-year strategic goals. I also regularly offer mentorship and coaching to start-ups within the Bethnal Green Ventures incubator programme, and beyond.

In parallel to my product management career, over the course of the last 10 years I have gained skills as an award-winning headwear designer/maker. In 2025 I obtained an HNC in Fashion & Textiles (Millinery) from Morley College, and I am currently focusing on developing the use of biomaterials within the millinery industry. These two parallel careers help me thrive in the startup landscape as I live and breathe some of the challenges that most founders go through to discover, develop and grow their products.

Feel free to book a meeting or send me a message below to discuss how we can work together.
